  Excellent tutorial. I started MAX only using the hard copy information, and one of my fellow students recommended I view your videos. You made things so clear! I know you haven’t developed the tutorial on color coding, but I do have a question: In your opinion and experience, is it best for sub-codes to adopt the inherent color of the main code? For my test, I assigned sub-codes a sub-set of the main code color, but when looking at the document, I am not sure I gained anything. Your expertise would be appreciated.

  I will be analyzing 20 interviews using IPA (interpretative phenomenological analysis). In IPA, codes are clustered into themes, and different themes may form superordinate themes. How is that handled with MAXQDA?

  Ahmad,

  MaxQDA can put codes into a hierarchical form, so sub-codes up to 10 levels deep can be created. So a superordinate theme would be the highest level with themes as a level below them and codes a level below themes.
